Länder > Ghana
Ghana is one of West Africa’s friendliest entry points: English makes the first days easier, transport reaches almost everywhere, and a simple question can quickly become a proper conversation. Accra is loud, creative and gloriously alive, moving from markets and street food to beaches, galleries and clubs that explain why Ghanaian music travels so well.
Along the coast, the forts and castles of Cape Coast and Elmina confront the history of the Atlantic slave trade with the weight it deserves. Nearby, Kakum brings rainforest trails and a canopy walkway, while the western coast adds relaxed surf towns. Head north and the tempo changes: Mole National Park opens into savanna and wildlife, and the Volta region offers mountains, waterfalls, villages and the vast lake.
Ghana’s best moments often happen between the headline stops—in a crowded tro-tro, over a bowl of waakye, beside a stall stacked with bright fabric, or when someone upgrades your playlist. It is approachable for first-time backpackers and still rewarding for veterans. Move slowly, listen to the history and keep your spending close to local communities.
